NiteMapper Pro - The Whole World in Living Color!
For any date and time calculates the Earth/Sun conditions and generates an on-screen world map showing the day area in white, the night area dark, and flashing symbols where the Sun and Moon are directly overhead.
Also shown are the equator, the moon rise/set line and the ecliptic, lunar nodes and perigee point projected onto the surface. The program has options to update information in real time, keep a fixed time for study, or advance conditions one hour in time every few minutes to watch the progress. Date and time show on screen.
The program uses high resolution color display, EGA or VGA, for better detail and readability. It displays, on the world map, additional information: Sun rise and set times, Moon rise and set times, the current altitude and azimuth for the Sun and Moon, and times for the other zones of the world.
The Alt/Az display shows your local horizon with the altitude and azimuth of the Sun and Moon plotted so you can immediately see where they are in the sky (or below the horizon). You input your latitude and longitude and you can even add an outline of local features like buildings or mountains, etc. by inputting the altitude/azimuth of the points defining these local features.
The ecliptic screen shows the Sun and Moon plotted on the ecliptic circle plus the location of the ascending/descending nodes and the perigee point. A U.S. map with states is included. Switch back and forth from World to USA at press of a key. Comes pre-set or define your own twilight boundaries.
On World or USA map you can display the location of a city with an X on map and the name at bottom of screen. Comes with major cities included but you can add your own with longitude/latitude and name input. Analog clock shows time on screen for easier reference. Updates when running in real time or changing modes.
With the press of a key you can get a status table giving latitude/longitude of projection on Earth of Sun, Moon, perigee, and ascending and descending nodes of Moon. You can change the plotted city by pressing F1 and entering the name of a city in the table. Also provides rise/set times for Sun and Moon as well as altitude/azimuth of Sun & Moon.
There is a polar view of the Earth showing the day and night boundaries. Centered on the North Pole this view is helpful to understand effects of the inclination of the Earth's axis. You have the option to toggle on and off a grid of latitude and longitude lines for any of the three maps: World, US and Polar. In addition the maps show all three twilight zones at once civil, nautical and astronomical.
The flashing symbols for the Sun and Moon overhead points can be paused. Also included are functions to save the screen maps as PCX graphical files for use in other programs or to send the screens to dot-matrix or laser printers. Get a detailed description of your local sky conditions!
